Basketball megastar Yao Ming, who plays for the National Basketball Association (NBA) and for China's Olympic team, is one of the most famous athletes in the world today. Despite a decade of war and environmental devastation, Rwanda's mountain gorillas and their habitat have survived to this day because of the efforts of NGOs and rangers who continued to fund and work in these areas during the war. They continued their efforts despite the danger due to the money the gorillas had brought in through tourism. Today, tourism for mountain gorillas has helped bring in money to facilitate the reconstruction of the country.
